From Helix Charter H.S. to a D-1 Athlete at the University of New Mexico, Xavier Van Is on the Move!

When it comes to athletes who have come out of Helix Charter High School, in La Mesa, CA (And there have been many), Xavier Van is a name that resonates within the school, athletic department, with football enthusiasts, track & field fans, and Helix supporters alike. Now, as a redshirt junior wide receiver at the University of New Mexico, Xavier is making a name for himself both on and off the field.

Xavier's Journey Begins


Xavier's journey towards success began during his time at Helix Charter High School in San Diego. Here, he honed his skills and developed a passion for the game. Xavier was a standout Football and Track & Field athlete. In his 3 Varsity football seasons, he amased 24 Touchdowns, nearly 2500 yards as a receiver, and 15 interceptions and nearly 200 tackles as a free safety. He was All-League and All-CIF as a Receiver and as a Safety. In Track & Field he was on the 4x400 Relay team that set a school record in 2022. He also qualified for the California State Track & Field Championships in 2021 and 2022 (4x100 and 4x400). His dedication and hard work paid off, with a scholarship to UNM.

One of Xavier's standout qualities is his relentless work ethic. He shows perseverance that has helped him overcome injuries, the covid 19 shutdown and many other obstacles. This drive has allowed him to rise to each challenge that came his way. His exceptional talent on the field is matched only by his humility and dedication to his craft. This combination makes him a compelling athlete.

Off the field, Xavier is deeply involved in his community. He gives back through various charitable endeavors and community service projects. He is a role model for young athletes in his hometown, as well as those in the greater Albuquerqui area. Xavier demonstrates that success is not just about winning games and having fame.
